The latest in affordable espresso grinding from industry-leading Baratza!

The new Baratza Sette 30 AP is an exciting evolution of the home grinder, bringing more and more commercial quality features while still maintaining a domestic price. Baratza has taken what they've learned from the production of the innovative Sette 270 and made a perfect package of a low-retention, large burr, low-heat, fast grinder.

Having trouble with your Baratza? Please refer to their exhaustive Troubleshooting Guide!

The Sette Series has, at its core, a revolutionary grinding mechanism that produces game-changing performance. Key aspects of this innovative mechanism include:

  • Straight-thru vertical transports and grinding of the beans (highly efficient and results in minimal residual coffee in the system).
  • Rotation of the outer ring burr (with twice the surface area of the cone burr) along with proprietary tooth geometry, produces grinding thru-put that is two to three times that of others in its class.
  • Proprietary gear box (planetary + crown gear) that maximizes efficiency of torque transfer, resulting in lower power consumption and much less heat.
  • Powerful DC motor for maximum starting torque and efficiency, resulting in cooler operation.

Manufactured by Etzinger in Liechtenstein, the Sette 30 is built with 40mm conical AP burrs, which are designed to give a grind profile that is exceptional for espresso and good for brew methods requiring a finer grind (e.g. AeroPress or V60).

The Sette 30 grinds 3.5 to 5.5 grams per second, depending on roast and grind setting. The burrs are durable, and will remain sharp for many years.

We offer a second, separate, burr assembly-the BG (Brew Grind) burr which grinds in the fine to mid-coarse range which is more suitable for filter/manual brewing (eg Automatic Brewers, Chemex) and espresso. It is available for separate purchase, from our website.

The clever design of the Sette Series burr assembly offers you, the user, the ability to exchange the cone burr in less than a minute with no tools and no recalibration. Check this video from about 30 seconds in to see how easy it is to make the switch.

The Sette 30 has a device holder that allows you to remove and re-orient the arms to grind directly into a portafilter or into the supplied grounds bin.

The Sette’s grounds bin is made from an anti-static plastic, with a molded spout for easy pouring into your preferred brewing device. It has a usable capacity of 160g (Med Roast).

The hopper holds approximately 300-400g of coffee. An innovative bean shutoff feature in the collar permits no-mess, no-fuss hopper removal for changing out beans.

The Sette 30 has a simple front mounted control panel with easy to read backlit LED display. The user manually presets the grind time to within .1 seconds. Simply press the start button and the Sette automatically delivers precise dosing.

The Sette has a macro adjust of 30 steps, designed to give a grind profile that is exceptional for espresso and good for brew methods requiring a finer grind. The macro mechanism is directly connected to the cone burr resulting in immediate and true grind adjustment.

The Sette 30 is designed with a small footprint (like our other models) and fits under standard kitchen cabinets.

The cone burr is easily removable with no tools, making cleaning very easy.

Fantastic Grinder and it's Upgradeable

The Baratza Sette 270 is a "standard" in the coffee industry, but did you know you can buy the Sette 30 and then upgrade the adjustment stepper with an official component from Baratza and turn your Sette 30 into a 270? And it's actually cheaper than buying a 270! Since we're new to espresso culture, we got the Sette 30 and will upgrade it if we decide to become full coffee nerds. As it stands, the Sette 30 is incredible and looks super slick on our counter.

Sette 30 Good grinder ---- for now

I am new to the espresso machine community. I am not a serious espresso drinker but I enjoy the taste of it and I enjoy the process of making one.

A coffee grinder is essential to the espresso taste. You cannot make a good tasting espresso with a big box consumer level grinder. You have to get a good grinder. I bought a low end grinder that had many grind settings from a big box and i was disappointed but it was a learning experience. So I did some research and found this entry level Baratza Sette 30 for espresso lovers.

This grinder is a good start for beginners and it will guide you on whether or not this one is average, good or really good for your standard. It will help you on whether to upgrade or stay where you are ----for the money you spent on it.

One thing with all low end grinders is that they might have not a feature for anit-static for the grinds will cling to the side of plastic or metal. What happens is that if you grind a whole lot of beans you will find that the grind will build or cling to the exit port of the burrs. It is quite annoying !!!!!

One thing you can do is wet the end of a spoon handle and stir it with the whole beans before you put it in the hopper so the beans will not lose/gain their electrons to become charged, thereby, making your grinding process a better experience. it works all the time. Apart from the static issue, which is not the blame of the unit, its good enough for my taste.

I may upgrade in the future but for now its ok.

Also, the young salesman was a good sales person at Espresso Dolce. Good overall experience.

Who knew that a grinder could make such a difference in coffee. As a self proclaimed coffee snob I am humbled. I use less coffee than before and end up with a perfect cup every time. Simply the best investment in my daily java I've ever made!
